Iowa Mennonite School seniors Renee Buckwalter and Riley Schmieder have represented their school well during the fall sports season.Buckwalter and Schmieder finished in the top 50 at the Class 1 State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge two weekends ago, and this week earned academic all-state honors for their work in the classroom.

To receive academic all-state honors, a student must be a senior with a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, have scored 28 or higher on their ACT test, and have placed in the top 30 in the state qualifying race. According to IMS cross country coach Marty Gingrich, only two other students have achieved this recognition since 2002.

Several other IMS cross country runners were recognized as academic all-conference honorees, including Liza Zanozina, Noah Bruns, Levi Geyer, Kobi Russom, and Jim Wang.
