The partnership agreement between the City of Kalona and YMCA of Washington County begins January 1st. According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, there may be YMCA personnel at the Kalona Community Center before then, but their contract officially takes effect the first of the year.

Under the contract the City Council approved on Monday, the city will pay YMCA of Washington County $3,750 a month over a two year period. During that time, the Y will manage and maintain the facility and provide youth, adult and senior citizen programming to the residents of Kalona. Schlabaugh adds minor changes may be made to the framework of the agreement before the YMCA board meets on November 24th.

The city and YMCA began discussing the possibility of an agreement in August after Kalona’s parks and recreation director resigned.
