The Keota Eagles boys’ basketball team has to replace its two main scorers from last year’s 25-win team. Kolton Greiner and Luke Lyle each averaged over 18 points per game for the Eagles during the 2013-14 season. The two helped lead Keota to a fourth place finish in last year’s Class 1A state basketball tournament with a 25-3 record.

Keota head basketball coach Dan Stout says he is proud of the accomplishment the team made last season. “It was the first time that Keota had been back to the state tournament since 1989.” Stout said, “We had a lot of great seniors with Kolton Greiner and Luke Lyle ending up being co-most valuable players on the team.”

The Eagles now are on to life without Greiner and Lyle, but Keota return a number of players who played on last year’s squad. Senior Nate Owen returns as the Eagles leading scorer and rebounder. Owen averaged 11 points and nearly seven rebounds a game last season.

Keota begins the 2014-15 boys’ basketball season on Tuesday as the Eagles travel for a South Iowa Cedar Conference matchup with the Iowa Valley Tigers.
