A man who eluded authorities for over a day is in custody. According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, 26-year-old Tyler Craig Lind led a Sheriff’s deputy on a high speed pursuit at around 3am Sunday morning. After the suspect crashed his truck, he got out of the vehicle with a long gun, pointed it at the deputy, then fled into nearby timber after the deputy fired shots. This occurred in rural Jefferson County, north of Batavia.

A lengthy search involving ten agencies including Washington Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office followed. He was arrested at 9:15 Monday morning at a residence close to where the altercation with the deputy took place. The owner of the home contacted authorities after finding Lind.

The suspect is charged with eluding law enforcement. Jefferson County Attorney Timothy Dille says more charges will be filed in the coming days.
