The CEO of a local electric cooperative has been recognized by a national organization. The Solar Electric Power Association recently gave Warren McKenna of Farmers Electric Co-op the Utility CEO of the Year award.
Farmers Electric has a Kalona address, but is based in the small unincorporated community of Frytown. In July, the cooperative opened the largest solar farm in Iowa. The four acre farm located north of Kalona is almost triple the size of the state’s second largest solar farm and has the potential to produce the most solar energy per capita in the country.
According to the Solar Electric Power Association, Farmers Electric is one of the smallest cooperatives in the United States.
