This week marks the beginning of the winter sports season for several Washington winter sports teams.Washington’s boys basketball, wrestling, and girls and boys bowling teams all are set to open the season this week.

Washington’s boys basketball team starts their season Tuesday evening in Wellman.  The Demon girls and boys basketball teams are scheduled to play a non-conference double header with the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. The double header tips off with the girls game at 6:15 p.m. The girls’ basketball team started their regular season schedule last Monday in Eddyville, opening the schedule with a 5 3-47 victory over the no. 12 rated Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. Mid-Prairie is the only opponent this week for the Demon boys basketball team.  The Demon girls’ basketball team ends their week at Washington High School Saturday evening in a non-conference game with the Solon Spartans with tipoff set for 7:45 p.m.

Washington’s wrestling team competes three times during their first week of action. The Demons open up the dual season in Benton Tuesday evening. Washington is scheduled to wrestle against athletes from Benton,  Hartwick-Ladora-Victor, and Iowa Valley Community schools at 6 p.m. at Benton Community High School.  The Demons’  home opener follows two days later on Thursday. Washington is scheduled to wrestle athletes from Highland and Louisa-Muscatine High Schools beginning at 6 p.m. at Washington High School. Washington ends the week competing in a tournament at Cascade High School Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Finally, Washington’s girls and boys bowling team ends the week with their opening match of the season. The Demon bowlers travel to Muscatine Friday evening  to compete against Durrant, Central DeWitt, and Louisa-Muscatine High Schools.  The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Plamor Lanes in Muscatine.
