Iowa’s trapping season is now open.Raccoons are the primary target, but traps are also being set for fox, coyote, beaver and otter.

A variety of traps are used, including live traps, snares and foot traps. Wesley Gould is the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Washington and Keokuk counties. He says one type that’s gaining popularity is dog proof traps. He adds many of the dog proof traps in use locally are homemade.
