The WACO Warrior boys basketball team is continuing to prepare for the start of the 2014-15 season. The Warriors are looking to improve on back to back seven win seasons under head coach Bob Hilmer.

Hilmer has been impressed with the effort in practice, especially with the holiday shortened week. “We are getting everything we need to get in both offensively and defensively.” Hilmer said, “I think we are ready to play at anytime. We just need some outside competition and we will be ready.”

WACO starts the upcoming season without one of its best returning players. Sophomore Jackson Roth, the team’s leading returning scorer, suffered an injury during the football season and is questionable if he will be able to play this season. The Warriors do have three seniors coming back from last year’s squad. They include Brayden Blake, Tucker Janecek, and Mitchell Shaffer. Blake averaged 7.7 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists as a junior.

The WACO girls and boys basketball teams open up double header action Tuesday evening at Mediapolis for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference game with the Bulldogs and Bullettes.
