The WACO Warrior girls’ basketball team heads into the 2014-15 season with a pair of returning all-conference post players. Senior Aaliyah Brown returns as the Warriors’ leading scorer. Brown, a second team all-conference performer last season, averaged 11 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a junior. Also returning is senior Erika Leichty, who earned all-conference honorable mention as a junior. Leichty averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season for WACO.

Head girls basketball coach Shannon Rugg says having Brown and Leichty in the post works well for the team’s inside/outside offensive approach. “We are going to go inside and cause our opponent to double team us, opening up a chance for some open shots outside,” Rugg said.

Brown and Leichty both made an impact in Friday’s Hall of Pride Scrimmage against the Washington Demons. Brown finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Leichty had eight points and five rebounds before fouling out of the game in the fourth quarter.

WACO opened up their 2014-15 season Tuesday night in Columbus Junction against their Southeast Iowa Super Conference rival Columbus. The Warriors came away with a 26-25 victory over the Wildcats. WACO returns to action Tuesday evening in Mediapolis for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference contest with the Bulletes.
