For the second time in two years, the Washington Demon football team ended the Carlisle Wildcats’ football season on a rain soaked Case Field. As you heard on AM and FM KCII, behind 426 yards rushing, Washington sprinted into the quarterfinals with a 46-20 victory.
Washington senior quarterback Daryn Sebelius and running back Jacob Hennigan continued to shine behind their offensive line. Hennigan rushed 19 times for 268 yards and three touchdowns, while Sebelius rushed 12 times for 147 yards and saw the endzone three times in the victory. The win improves Washington to 8-3 on the season, while Carlisle ends their 2014 season 8-3.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association announced late Monday evening that the Washington Demons are matched up in the quarterfinals against the Pella Little Dutch. The Little Dutch spoiled coach Garrison Carter’s Washington debut in a 35-0 rout at Case Field on August 29th.
When asked about a potential rematch with Pella, Hennigan said he believes the Demons can play with just about anyone the way the team is playing right now. “We have been playing a lot more fundamentally sound,” Hennigan said, “We figured out where we need to be (in our formations). Week 1 (Pella) we were kind of iffy on who was playing where and getting caught on to our new offense. We have definitely changed a lot around and it would be interesting.”
The matchup against Pella is exactly the matchup Carter was hoping for when asked who he wanted to face in the quarterfinals. “There is one team we have wanted since Week 1, we want another shot at Pella.” Carter said, “Hopefully we will get to play them.”
Washington gets a chance to avenge their worst loss of the season this Friday evening in Pella, and you can catch all of the action beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. on AM & FM KCII and KCIIradio.com.
