The Washington Demon girls’ basketball team played two different games Thursday evening in Wellman. Through the first 14 minutes of the basketball game, Washington struggled in several fundamental areas as they trailed the Clear Creek Amana Clippers 16 to 3 with two minutes remaining in the two quarter scrimmage.

Then in the final minutes, the Demons showed what type of offensive threat they could be. Washington finished the game on a 12 to 1 run, but fell short in a 17-15 setback.

Head coach Jay Zieglowsky was content with the performance. “I was disappointed  in the first quarter, but I understood what was going on.” Zieglowsky said, “I knew we would come out and be a little flat. I was afraid of it anyway. The second quarter showed what we were capable of so I am going home pretty happy overall.”

Twelve first quarter turnovers helped the Clippers get out to a 16-3 lead after eight minutes of play. The Demons responded in the second quarter by holding Clear Creek Amana scoreless until the final seconds of the period.

Junior Amber Salow had a team leading five points, while senior Sydney Hoffman grabbed a team high five rebounds.

Washington’s girls and boys teams are scrimmaging the WACO Warrior’s tonight in Wayland. The girls’ exhibition contest begin at 6:30 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
