The Sigourney boys basketball team is getting set up for this upcoming basketball season. They went from winning 21 games and winning the conference two years ago, to going 7-15 last year. Head Coach Mitch Esick says with the players he has coming back and experience they got will benefit his team this year, “We have seven to eight players that got some experience for us last year, that we feel pretty good about.” He also mentioned that there are just some things you can’t teach in practice, but only with varsity playing experience.
The Savages have three starters coming back one of them been junior Blaine Gretter. Gretter averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, and made 48 percent of his shots last year. Coach Esick says he be surprised if he didn’t continue with those same numbers going into this year, “This year, as long as he can stay healthy, play of the games I wouldn’t expect him to drop off from his production from last year. The other two starters coming back this is year are junior Peyton Crawford and senior Colby Kerkove.
Sigourney will be playing their first home game tonight against HLV-Victor.
