Recently a public discussion regarding childcare in Washington County was held and parents, providers and others took part in the event. Tasha Beghtol, Director of the Early Childhood Area Board, for the area stated the event was a chance to learn what parents are interested in and what needs there are in the community. Beghtol states a need for more childcare slots in the county was identified in the community meeting.
The Henry Washington Early Childhood Area is merging with Louisa and Des Moines counties to create a four-county organization in the new year. These public meetings will also be held in Wapello, Burlington and Mt. Pleasant.
Beghtol explains across the state there has been a decrease in registered providers. A provider in the state of Iowa does not have to be registered with the state if they care for five children or fewer in their home.
