Under first-year head coach Dave Lekwa the Columbus Wildcats (1-6 overall; 1-5 conference) are experiencing many changes, particularly in their offensive gameplan. “Everything we do offensively from our man-to-man sets, zone looks, out-of-bounds plays is new,” Lekwa says

Lekwa adds he has switched up the team’s defensive look, changing from a primarily man-to-man defense to multiple zone formations. Despite just one win in their first seven games, Lekwa is encouraged by how his team has progressed under the team’s new offensive and defensive formations.

Lekwa says a big part of the team’s growth is due to the leadership shown by the team’s lone senior Chase Fink. Fink leads the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North division averaging 18.3 points per game this season and hasn’t scored under 10 points in a game this season.

The Wildcats continue regular season play on Jan. 6, 2015,  in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North clash with against Mediapolis Bulldogs in Mediapolis.
