In her third season playing for the Sigourney Savage girls’ basketball team (5-4 overall; 5-4 conference), junior Sierra Davis has taken her game to another level.

Davis, who came off the bench last season for Sigourney, has worked to increase her points per game from 7.3 to a team-leading 18.3 this season. She has also seen an increase in her rebounds per game (2.29 to 3.7) and assists per game (1.58 to 2) from the previous season.

Sigourney girls’ basketball coach Andy Harter says what impresses him the most about Davis is her leadership ability on the floor. “She takes control of the team out on the court because she is so experienced,” Harter said, “We start two freshmen and a sophomore and she has become a calming influence for them.”

Senior forward Jordan Carter is the only other Savage player averaging double-digit points this season. The Sigourney Savages start the second half of the season Jan. 6, 2015, in a South Iowa Cedar Conference battle with North Mahaska (2-7 overall) in New Sharon.
