Many people will be celebrating and bringing in the new year at parties tonight. After celebrating make sure to get home safely. According to the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, alcohol is second only to excessive speed as a contributing factor in traffic crashes.

Across the United States, every hour 161 impaired driving arrests are made, but one person still dies every 51 minutes due to someone driving drunk.

In Iowa in 2012, there were 92 alcohol-related traffic deaths and last year over 16,000 Iowa drivers had their licenses revoked due to operating while intoxicated.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends installing the SaferRide app on your smartphone before going out. For more information about the app click here.
