Farmland values across the state have seen a decline and the average Iowa farmland value is now estimated to be $7,943 per acre. This state average is a drop in value of about 8.9 percent per acre or $773 per acre. Washington County’s farmland value for 2014 is $9,304. The highest is in Scott County at $11,618 and the lowest is in Decatur County in south-central Iowa at $3,587.

This year’s survey shows the second year since 1999 to have a decline in farmland values and the largest decline since 1986. The farmland values are determined by the Iowa Land Value Survey which was conducted in November by the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development at Iowa State University.
