Influenza activity continues to increase in Iowa with 11 schools reporting 10 percent or greater absenteeism due to illness across the state. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, flu is regional in Iowa at this time with 98 detected flu A (H3N2) cases, two flu A (2009 H1N1) and four flu B. Sixty-five influenza-associated hospitalizatiosn were reported.

While Iowa’s flu activity remains low, neighboring states are experiencing high activity levels; these states include Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

People are reminded to get an annual flu vaccine, to wash hands regularly and to stay home from school and work when ill.
