Ice fishing on Lake Darling will be a possibility this winter, if the ice gets thick enough. According to Lake Darling Fisheries Technician Vance Poulton, the ice was under two inches thick late last week, and is likely thinner now following this past weekend’s weather. He shares the ice needs to be at least four inches thick before he feels safe walking on frozen lakes and ponds.

Poulton says that once the ice reaches that thickness, Lake Darling will offer some decent fishing. At his last measurement, the bigger bluegills were 8inches long and the crappie were 10 inches. He adds many of the fish are much smaller, so anglers will have to do some sorting. The DNR stocked the lake with fish earlier this year.
