Retired K-9 officer Joe.

Another $600 has been donated to the Washington County K-9 fund. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer announced at this week’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting that Kalona Realty gave $100 and Steven Schlabaugh gave $500. Over $3,000 is now in the fund.

The sheriff’s office is raising money to get a new K-9 unit, as the department’s dog, Joe, retired in January after working on routine patrol, drug investigations, and search and rescue cases. Chief Deputy Jared Schneider stated it costs more than $10,000 for training and additional funds for equipment.
