The Washington County K-9 fund received an early Christmas present in the form of $7,000 in donations presented at yesterday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer announced that a donation for $200 was received from Residents for a Better Richmond and a $6810 gift came from Dana Stafford of Wellman.

The sheriff’s office is has been raising money for a new K-9 unit, since last January when the department’s dog Joe retired. The fund is now just under $12,000. Chief Deputy Jared Schneider tells KCII News the department is trying to raise $42,000 total for two dogs.
