The Kalona City Council has waived some of the fees Habitat for Humanity would have had to pay for the home they’re moving to town. Building permit fees Kalona usually charges amounts to a little over $1,000. At their last meeting, the council decided to only charge Habitat $350.

That money will cover the cost of connecting the home to the city’s sewer system and the installation of a water meter.

Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity plans to begin renovating the home this winter. The home, currently located in rural Tiffin, will be moved to a lot at 121 A Avenue.
