The Kalona City Council reviewed their finances from the fiscal year that ended June 30th at this week’s meeting. The city’s 2013-2014 financial report was sent off to the state government following approval from the council on Monday.

According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, the report showed that their general government reserve fund grew by $450,000. Their proprietary fund increased by $60,000. He explains the general fund is where tax dollars and miscellaneous income goes, while fees for services like water and sewer go to the proprietary fund.

He adds that money will serve as a savings for the city and will help pay for emergency projects that come up in the future.
