Several conference battles highlighted Friday nights basketball action in the KCII listening area.

In girls’ acton:

The Iowa Mennonite School are still searching for their first victory of the season, falling 60-42 to the Pekin Panthers in Packwood. The loss drops IMS to 0-7 overall and 0-7 in conference.

The Highland Huskies had trouble scoring against Mediapolis defense in a 59-30 setback at Highland. No Highland player scored in double figures, with senior Chelsey Lampe leading the Huskies in scoring with nine points. The loss drops Highland to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Three players scored in double figures for Columbus as the Wildcats defeated county rival Louisa-Muscatine in Columbus Junction. The victory was the second straight for Columbus, who improved to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Keota Eagles finishes their busy week of basketball with a 34-29 victory over the English Valleys Bears. The Eagles played four games in seven days, winning three of their four contests. Last night’s win improved the Eagles to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in conference.

Senior Madison Forbes scored a team-high 10 points to help the Lone Tree Lions snap a six game losing streak with a 47-32 victory over Winfield-Mount Union. The win improves Lone Tree to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The setback drops Winfield-Mount Union to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in conference.

The Sigourney Savages dropped their second straight conference game, falling 51-38 at Lynnville Sully. The loss drops Sigourney to 4-4 overall and 4-4 in conference.

Finally, senior Jalyssa Jespon had a game-high 13 points as the WACO Warriors edged the Wapello Indians 40-39 in Wayland. The victory is the second straight for the Warriors, who improved to 6-2 overall and 6-1 in conference.

In boys’ action:

Senior Nate Owen scored a game-high 28 points, helping the Keota Eagles cruise to a 74-41 victory. The win is the third victory for Keota in the last week, improving the Eagles to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in conference.
