Nativities handmade by artisans across the world and right here in Southeast Iowa will be on display in Ainsworth this weekend. Michael Zahs is the owner of the collection which features over 2,200 nativities from 100 countries. Zahs says he began with 150 nativities around two decades ago.

The collection has grown thanks in part to donations made by world travelers who pick up culturally significant nativities during their trips. The most recent addition is a set from Ethiopia. Besides being significant to the regions they’re from, the focus of the collection is on handmade sets, some of which he’s made himself.

He shares that this will likely be the last year his collection will be displayed. You can see the display at the Ainsworth Opera House from 10 to 8pm today and tomorrow. It will also be open Sunday from 1 to 5. For more information, click here to listen to the In Touch with Southeast Iowa Zahs joined us for.
