The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks  and Washington Demons played in a local girls’ basketball match up last night at Wellman. The game was heard on AM and FM KCII and KCIIradio.com. The game started out fast for Mid-Prairie as they would start with the lead and never give it up. The score was 23-15 at halftime, but that would be as close as the Demons would get to the Lady Hawks. Mid-Prairie secured the win with a final score of 44-30.

Coach Stephane Bender saw a lot of improvement from last game against Fairfield to last night, “We did a lot of things better, turnovers were down from the Fairfield game.” Mid-Prairie who had 30 turnovers in the their first game cut the turnovers to 20 last night.

The Lady Hawks got the ball inside more this game. Senior Taylor Kurtz bounced back with 14 points and seven rebounds to lead Mid-Prairie. Sophomore Ireland Hostler in her first start got eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Senior Macy Marek coming off the bench led the Demons in points with nine.

Mid-Prairie now evens their record at 1-1 on the season and will travel to play North Cedar, Stanwood Friday. For the Demons they will play their first game at home against Solon Saturday.
