Radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer, and it could be in your home. The odorless, colorless gas occurs naturally when uranium in soil decays.

According to Washington County Environmental Health Director Jennine Wolf,  radon is very prevalent in Iowa and surrounding states. She says the gas, which can makes its way into homes through cracks in basement floors and walls, is the number one cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers.

She adds they offer tests for $8 that includes a prepaid package you send to professionals that will determine if there are dangerously high levels of radon in your home.
