The WACO Warrior girls’ basketball team (6-3 overall; 6-2 conference) is off to a good start this season. The Warriors, who won eight games last season and seven two seasons ago, won six of their first nine games to start the 2014-15 regular season.

WACO girls’ basketball coach Shannon Rugg says a contributing factor to the Warriors success has been the play of his six girl rotation in the lineup. The group of seniors Aaliyah Brown, Erika Leichty, Jennie Greene, Jalyssa Jepson, and Gabby Wagler and sophomore Hallie Kissell have scored 352 of the Warrior’s 353 points in the first half.

Defense has also played a role in WACO’s winning record. In their six wins, the Warriors gave up an average of 35.8 points per game.

The Warriors return to action on Jan. 6, 2015, in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference battle against the Highland Huskies at Highland High School.
