The Washington Demons boys basketball team was playing catch up Tuesday night. The Demons were in Muscatine for a non-conference game with the Muskies out of the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

As you heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com, Washington, who hadn’t beaten Muscatine since prior to the 2008-09 season, fell behind 12-0 in the first three minutes of the game and couldn’t catch up in a 76-51 loss to the Muskies. Three Demons scored in double figures, led by junior guard Derek Anding with 17 points. Senior Gage Redlinger had a season high 13 points while Thomas Bump contributed with a season high 12 points in the setback.

Washington boys basketball coach Bryce Smeins says his team needs to find a way to shoot free throws better. “We were 14-28 from the free throw line tonight.” Smiens said, “We have to shoot better free throws than 14-28 or 13-30 that we shot at Mid-Prairie.”

The Demon boys’ basketball team returns to the court Saturday evening for a non conference game with the West Branch Bears. Live play by play action begins with the Washington HyVee Pregame show for the girls’ game at 5:45 p.m. at Washington High School.
