The starting five for the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team put up comparable scoring numbers Tuesday night. As you heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons played host to the Oskaloosa Indians in a non-conference clash at Washington High School.

Four Demons starters scored in double figures, but Oskaloosa’s bench outscored Washington’s 15-0 last night on their way to a 67-57 victory. Washington senior guard Thomas Bump led the team with a season-high 15 points, junior Derek Anding added 14, senior Gage Redlinger collected 12 points, and senior Blake Weidman scored 11. The only other Demon player with points in the game was starting senior forward Daryn Sebelius, who scored five points and grabbed down a season-high 13 rebounds in the setback.

Head coach Bryce Smeins says the coaching staff is trying to find ways to get more people into the offensive game plan. “We need to get some scoring off our bench in some way,” Smeins said, “We are not sure how we are going to do that at this point. We have to experiment with it a bit and keep plugging away at it.”

In the first four games of the season, Washington’s starting lineup has produced all but three offensive points.

The loss drops Washington to 1-3 on the season. The Demons are back in action Friday evening in a conference battle with the Keokuk Chiefs in Keokuk. Live play by play coverage opens with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame show for the girls’ contest at 5:45 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com from Keokuk High School.
