As a whole, the Washington wrestling team has been almost unbeatable on the mat during the first part of the season. The Demons finished the 2014 portion of their schedule competing in the Dikes-New Hartford tournament last Saturday. Washington participated against five separate duals meets against Hatwick-Ladora-Victor, Dike-New Hartford, Saint Ansgar, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and South Winnesheik Community Schools.

Washington left the tournament winners of four of the five duals they competed in, suffering their lone loss against the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines 42-36. In fact, in 16 dual meets the Demons have competed in this season, Washington’s only loss of the season is to the Wolverines and have conference victories over Fairfield and Keokuk.

Individually, seniors Brad Skubal and Alex Gonzaelz continue to lead the Demons on the mat. Both have identical 17-1 records and both suffered their lone loss of the season at the Mediapolis tournament on Dec. 13.

The Washington wrestling team returns to competition on Jan. 8, 2015  in a conference meet versus the Fort Madison Bloodhounds at Fort Madison High School.
