The Washington wrestling team opened up their 2014-15 season Tuesday evening with a pair of meets at Atkins. The Demons wrestlers squared off against the Iowa Valley Tigers and the Benton Bobcats.

Washington scored six falls in their match with Benton and needed every last point as the Demons edged the Bobcats 40-39. Benton scored 12 of their 39 points due to Washington being unable to fill the 145 and 160 pound weight classes. Wrestlers who won by fall last night include: seniors Alex Gonzalez and Brad Skubal, sophomores Andrew Waite, Kyle Anderson, and Austin Hazelett, and freshman Mitchell Housinga. Sophomore Karlton Skubal was the only other winner against the Bobcats winning a 7-5 decision in his bout.

Against Iowa Valley, the Demons collected two falls and a major decision in a 46-27 dual meet victory. Washington wrestlers had score six points against the Tigers included: B. Skubal (fall), Bryce Rickey (fall), sophomore Trey Van Weelden (fall), Waite (forfeit), Hazelett (fall), and K. Skubal (major decision 13-3).

Washington returns to the mat Thursday evening at home in a dual meet with the Highland Huskies and the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons beginning at 6 p.m.
