An ordinance that would ban firearms on property owned by the City of West Chester is being considered. The city council has been discussing the possiblity since January.

In response to the proposal, residents contacted Iowa Gun Owners, a gun rights organization. The special interest group has a history of getting involved when cities in Iowa consider ordinances related to gun bans.

Aaron Dorr is the organization’s executive director. He says they have not seen the ordinance, but through conversations with citizens, they’ve learned it would ban firearms and defensive weapons on city property.

Ordinance 134 – Establishing Open Carry Zones is on the agenda for the city council’s meeting tomorrow morning.
