Equipment at an Ainsworth pumping station malfunctioned this morning and 5,000 gallons of wastewater discharged to Long Creek. In less than an hour, the untreated wastewater flowed toward the stream starting at about 7 a.m. and ending when the city started a back-up pump. Roughly 80 to 85 percent of the wastewater reached the stream.

By 11 a.m., the city had replaced the malfunctioning equipment. The Department of Natural Resources is monitoring the situation.
