Officials believe a fire that destroyed a pole building near Iowa City started in a wood pile. According to Kalona Fire Chief, Steve Yotty, individuals were burning trash before the fire at 2563 Highway 1 Southwest started at around 2 Friday afternoon. He says winds from the south carried embers from the garbage fire to a woodpile next to the building. Fire departments from Kalona, Wellman, Riverside, Hills, Tiffin and Oxford were on scene for several hours. Yotty shares they were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby house. No injuries were reported.
