The Washington maintenance and construction report presented at this week’s city council meeting stated less than one-third of the salt budget has been used. Twenty-eight tons of salt was used in the first half of January, along with 17.5 tons of salt sand, and 30 gallons of calcium chloride.

Also, one water main break was repaired by the department so far this month. The break was in the 900 block of South Avenue D. Last year, during the frigid cold temperatures, 23 water mains broke during January and February.
