The Columbus Community Wildcats and Highland Huskies girls’ basketball teams competed last night in a Southeastern Iowa Super Conference North battle in Columbus Junction. As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com the Wildcats would take the victory over the Huskies 42-37.
The game was close throughout with Highland only having a one point lead going into halftime. At the end of the third quarter Highland had a five point lead. In the fourth quarter Columbus Community’s offense would kick it up a gear outscoring the Huskies 18-8 in the fourth to get the victory.
Columbus Community had another big night from senior Kelsey Pretz. She recorded a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Sophomore Bailey Stroud had a solid game with 10 points, and four steals to help the Wildcats.
Highland was led in scoring by sophomore Kelsey Hora with 10 points, and junior Cheyanne Adamson had eight points to finish out the contest.
With the win Columbus Community (11-4) (10-4) holds third place in conference standings over Highland. Columbus Community will stay at home tonight to take on the Wapello Arrows and Highland (12-4) (10-4)will travel to Lone Tree to take on the Tigers.
