The Columbus Community School Board is continuing to explore its options to fix the district’s financial problems. According to School Board President Sandra Martin, the board discussed cutting up to two teaching jobs, one secretary position and one non-certified employee at Monday’s meeting.

This is in addition to the five teaching positions included in Columbus’s initial plan to address their negative spending. The plan was rejected by the state because there weren’t enough cuts made.

Superintendent Marlene Johnson submitted her resignation at the meeting. Martin says the board has not decided how to proceed, but hiring an interim superintendent and sharing the position with another district are among their options.
