For the first time this season, scoring 50 points wasn’t enough for the Washington Demons girls basketball team (4-11 overall; 0-4 Southeast) to come away with a victory. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Donnellson for a non-conference clash with the Central Lee Lady Hawks (12-6 overall; 10-3 SEISC-South).

Washington scored 55 points, their second highest point total this season, but the Demons allowed 34 points in the paint in a 65-55 setback to the Lady Hawks. Four players scored in double figures for Central Lee led by senior forward Kelsey Bryant’s game-high 21 points. Freshman guard Anna Krehbiel contributed 14 points, her sister sophomore McKenzie Krehbiel added 13 and Britany Mathison scored 10 in the win.

Washington freshman guard Sarah Nacos scored a career-high 16 points, including four made three point baskets , while senior guard Dylan Schuletter had 12 points in the setback. In all eight different players got into the scoring column, including three freshman. The Demons now drop to 4-1 in games where they score more than 50 points this season.

The loss drops Washington’s girls’ basketball team’s record to 4-11 overall. The Demons return to the court on the road in a Southeast Conference double header with the Fort Madison Bloodhounds.
