The Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (4-10 overall; 0-4 Southeast) is hoping to put their recent struggles behind them amid a busy week of regular season action.

The Demons are scheduled to play three games over the next five days, starting tonight when Washington travels to Donnellson to take on the Central Lee Hawks (11-6 overall) in a non-conference battle. Entering the final week of January, the Demons are 2-4 in regular season play since the start of the new year including losing their past two games.

A factor in those losses has been the slow offensive start for the Demons in their recent two games. Washington scored 10 points in the first half of their 60-39 loss to Muscatine last week, while the Demons scored just eight first half points in a 41-28 loss to Fairfield on Friday.

The Central Lee Hawks are coming into the matchup off their first back-to-back losses of the season. After starting last week with a 45-36 win over the Cardinal of Eldon on Tuesday, the Hawks fell 50-47 to Fort Madison on Thursday and lost 75-49 to Burlington Notre Dame on Friday. Two Central Lee players are averaging double figure points this season, led by senior forward Kelsey Bryant’s 11.7 points per game, and senior forward Hayley Edwards with 10.9 points per game.

Action from Central Lee High School begins with the junior-varsity game at 6 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage of the girls’ varisty game beings with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
