Most of the ice that has developed on local bodies of water is ready to support anglers. Washington County Conservation Director Steve Anderson checked the ponds maintained by the county on Tuesday. According to Anderson, most ice is two inches thick, the minimum thickness considered safe for one person to walk on. Although some areas of ice on local ponds are up to four inches thick, he says anglers should exercise extreme caution as there are still thin spots.
