The Mid-Prairie and Lone Tree boys basketball teams begin the new year with a scrimmage today.

The Mid-Prairie boys are still searching for their first win of the campaign, entering today’s action with an 0-7 overall record. In their last game before the holidays, Mid-Prairie fell to West Branch on the road 73-44. Derek Rich led the Golden Hawks with 11 points. Nolan Faselt leads Mid-Prairie at 10 points per game. Faselt also holds the team lead with 22 assists. Noah Altenhofen leads Mid-Prairie on the boards with 37 rebounds.

The Lone Tree Lions are 7-1 overall on the year and 4-1 in conference play, tied with Iowa Mennonite, Winfield-Mt. Union and Highland for the lead in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North. In their last game the Lions edged Louisa-Muscatine 77-72. Jovonte Squires led the charge for Lone Tree scoring 22 points and dishing out a dozen assists. On the year the Lions are led by Squires at 17 points per game, Niko Gosnell is also in double figures at 14 points per contest. Squires is the team leader with 68 assists and 46 rebounds.

Action between the Golden Hawks and the Lions is today at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
