Governor Terry Branstad has designated this week as Hazardous Materials Awareness Week in Iowa. This is the fourth year that the third full week of January has been recognized as such by the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, as well as the Iowa Emergency Response Commission.

Things Iowans can do to ensure their family’s safety is store all household products according to instructions on the label, keep chemicals and medication out of reach of children, never mix household chemicals together, and save the number of the Iowa Poison Control center in your mobile phone.
