The Highland Huskies girls’ basketball team (10-2) played against the WACO Warriors (8-5) last night in a South East Iowa Super Conference showdown. It was a game that went down to the wire and KCII was there on the call.
Sophomore Kelsey Hora would make that last second three point shot to get the home victory for Highland 56-55. The game was back and forth all game with no one holding on more than an eight point lead at anytime of the game. At halftime WACO was up by a basket 26-28.
Highland and WACO lost offensive leaders late in the fourth quarter with Huskies senior Chelsey Lampe and WACO’s senior Aaliyah Brown both fouling out.
WACO had the basketball with about 10 seconds to go and was up 54-53. WACO senior Jennie Greene went to the free throw line making the first, but missing the second. Highland junior Cheyanne Adamson took it down the floor, clock ticking, and passed to her teammate sophmore Kelsey Hora. Hora then would hit the game winner with no time left.
Hora finished the game with 16 points and four rebounds. Adamson had 13 points and four assists. Lampe had 13 points, five steals, and four assists. WACO’s Brown led the team with 16 points and Greene had 13 points.
Highland is now 11-2 overall and 9-2 in conference play and will play at home tonight against Iowa Mennonite School. WACO drops to 8-6 overall and 6-5 in conference and will travel to Letts tonight to take on Louisa Muscatine.
