New infrared body cameras are now part of the equipment being used by the Washington Police Department. Police Chief Greg Goodman explained they found the cameras, that will visually record crimes in the dark, for $250. He explained the camera attaches at the shoulder of an officer’s uniform and the button to turn it on is placed on the belt.

Goodman added having people know they are being recorded helps diffuse situations and the film can be used in court. Council member Kathy Salazar, who is an attorney, added the camera footage help with cases that go to court.
