Kalona dealt with its first major snowstorm of the winter this week. Before the winter weather arrived, the city stocked up on supplies like salt, sand and ice melt.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says as winter came to an end last year, they were buying supplies when they needed them, so they had very little left over when they purchased new material in November.

Supplies will be moved once spring arrives to a new material storage shed currently being built next to the maintenance shop.
