Iowa’s 2015 Legislative Session begins Monday. According to State Representative for House District 84, Dave Heaton, the house will likely get closer to passing a gas tax increase than they ever have before. He says the issue will receive attention due to pressure from counties and cities. The lack of funding for maintaining the state’s roads has led some counties to shift the cost to property taxpayers. Heaton notes Washington County issued $8 million in bonds to pay for secondary roads upkeep.

He adds they will need to come up with a comprehensive approach to this issue, taking into account the growing number of electric cars and fuel efficient vehicles.

Dave Heaton has served in the Iowa House of Representatives for twenty years and was elected in 2003 to represent House District 84.
