A Columbus Junction man is facing additional charges in connection with the death of his daughter. Twenty-year-old Oscar Jimenez is now charged with murder in the 1st degree, a felony that carries a mandatory life sentence, and child endangerment resulting in death. Jimenez was arrested on January 20th and charged with multiple acts of child endangerment.

His arrest came a day after his daughter, four-month old Marleen Jimenez, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital for severe head trauma. The infant died on January 24th. The results of an autopsy are pending.

Now that the Louisa County Attorney’s trial information has been filed, the case is going to district court. According to Assistant Louisa County Attorney, David Matthews, the defendant’s arraignment is scheduled for February 13th. Jimenez is being held at the Louisa County Jail on $1 million bond.

The joint criminal investigation continues and is being conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Columbus Junction Police Department, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Human Services, University of Iowa Decedent Care Unit, Louisa County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
