Demon’s Comeback Falls Short Against Fairfield

Posted: Saturday, January 24th, 2015 at 7:00 am

Down by 13 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Washington Demon boys’ basketball (5-7 overall; 1-2 Southeast) looked like they might throw in the towel heading into the final quarter against the Fairfield Trojans (4-10 overall).

In the final eight minutes, the Demons went on a 15-4 runs and had a chance to win the final seconds. After junior guard Jordan Reid missed two free-throws with five seconds remaining, senior Dayrn Sebelius grabbed the rebound and got Thomas Bump the ball. Bump, who won made the game winning three pointer against Davis County Tuesday night, dribbled to the half court line and fired a last-second shot that fell short in a 44-42 setback for Washington.

Junior Derek Anding scored seven of his game-high 10 points in the fourth quarter, while senior guard Gage Redlinger contributed eight points and five rebounds in the setback.

The loss drops Washington to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in Southeast Conference play. The win improves Fairfield to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in Southeast Conference play.

Washington returns to the court Tuesday evening against the Fort Madison Bloodhounds at Fort Madison High School.
