Seven sewer projects have been identified in the City of Washington and an update on the sewer system was presented to the city council this week. Leland Belding with Veenstra and Kimm provided an overview of the system that dates back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, including an egg-shaped sewer that runs about 6,000 feet. He explained the main concern with the system is inflow and infiltration. Some of the identified projects include the court house separation, realignments on 10th Street and 8th Street, and 4th Avenue sewer separation and repairs.

Belding said future steps include finishing GIS mapping, metering at critical points and televising the egg sewer. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the sewer budget has $200,000 built into its budget annually to work on updates including lining and separation projects.
